You must use at least 5 primary sources and 2 secondary sources (secondary sources include the narrative parts of any website including the Cornell site).

Your essay must have an introduction that makes your argument about the fire. The paper then needs a context section that tells the reader a little about the industrial and social conditions in United States cities at the turn of the last century.  The essay then needs to move into a discussion of the evidence you found to prove your argument.

The essay must be in 12-point font, Times New Roman, with one-inch margins.  You do NOT need a title page.  For different sections of the website, you should simply cite in the following manner.(1)  You must also have citations that use Chicago Manual of Style (linked on homepage). IF YOU USE a WEBSITE FOR ANY INFORMATION YOU MUST CITE IT ON a SEPARATE WORKS CITED PAGE!

You will be graded on the quality of your prose, the strength and accuracy of your thesis, the flow and organization of your paragraphs, your use of evidence and inclusion of at least 3 direct quotes from primary sources, and correct paper format.
